This week, we took our tools and components up to North Yorkshire to build a bespoke playcentre for Gavin and his family. The project was based on our popular Forest Combo design, but with some unique adaptations to make it a perfect fit for his garden. The result was a three-day build that was as enjoyable for us as it was exciting for the family.
The most exciting part of this project was how we integrated the playcentre with the existing garden features. Gavin’s garden had a beautiful ornamental tree right where the tower was going to be, and rather than work around it, we decided to make it a central feature. We adapted our design to incorporate the tree, creating a truly unique and natural feel for the play area. It looks fantastic and gives the structure a sense of belonging in its surroundings.
We also made clever use of a raised, timber sleeper edged section of the garden. By building a raised deck and a sturdy lid over this area, we created a fantastic sandbox. This not only provides a dedicated space for sand play but also adds another access point to the play structure via handmade steps. It’s a great example of how a custom approach can turn an existing garden feature into a valuable part of the playscape.
The final playcentre includes a Forest playhouse, with a lower den, and through a hatch for that unique treehouse vibe. With monkey bars, nets, a sturdy climbing wall, and a slide for a speedy descent. We also added a rope bridge to connect the main tower to a smaller platform, and a set of swings to complete the fun. It was a pleasure working with Gavin to bring his vision to life, and we hope his family enjoys their new playcentre for many years to come!
